About IML's Educational Programs

Many of the programs listed here are all available for download and installation. A high-speed Internet connection is required for downloading and running the programs. If you are using a modem or dial-up connection, you may obtain a copy of any of our programs by contacting us.

Continuing Medical Education   [Mission: Public Health Preparedness]
icon for Sexual Assault: Forensic and Clinical Management Sexual Assault: Forensic and Clinical Management (early 2008)

This new, interactive program provides expert instruction for health care professionals who may care for sexual assault patients – and may be called to testify about that care. The training’s designed for registered nurses, advanced practice nurses, midwives physician assistants, physicians, and students in these professions.

Others may find certain sections of the program of benefit, including victim advocates, emergency medical services professionals, licensed vocational/practical nurses, counselors, EMS and law enforcement personnel, officers of the court, and forensic scientists.

Smoking Cessation for Pregnancy and Beyond (2004)
(CME accreditation expires 2007)

This program, based on the "Virtual Practicum" model, is intended for health care providers who will be assisting their female patients in quitting smoking, in particular, patients who are pregnant or in their child-bearing years.

Genetics in Clinical Practice: A Team Approach (2002)
(UPDATE: Currently being updated, no CME credit available at this time.)

This program, based on the "Virtual Practicum" model, is intended for health care providers who may see patients with disorders - or who have concerns about disorders - in which knowledge of clinical genetics can positively affect outcomes. It may also be helpful in the training of students in these professions, genetic counselors, medical laboratory professionals, public health professionals, and others who may have an interest in genetic testing.

Primary Care of the HIV/AIDS Patient: A Virtual Clinic (UPDATE: Currently being updated.)
(UPDATE: Currently being updated, no CME credit available at this time.)

This program, developed by the Interactive Media Lab and the Columbia School of Nursing, focuses on training health care providers and medical students to care for HIV patients.

The Virtual Terrorism Response Academy: Operations Plus for WMD-Hazmat (2007)
The Interactive Media Lab, acting as an element of the Institute for Security Technology Studies (ISTS) at Dartmouth, is developing terrorism-response training and supporting infrastructure for first responders. The program is currently in production.
